How to Be a Happier Person & Shift Your Perspective in 5 Simple Steps

The quest for happiness can seem elusive, demanding, and extremely volatile. Almost like you’re chasing something that you know exists but for some reason you can’t get your hands on. 

I was on this quest for many years. I tried therapy sessions, yoga classes, and meditation retreats, hoping they would unlock the door to inner peace and lasting joy. 

But something was missing, and I felt like I was trying to wrap my arms around a cloud that would disappear every time I got close.

After a full on break down that shook me to my core, I knew I had to shift my perspective.

Something had to change. 

I started exploring different paths to happiness, and stumbled upon brain hacking - perspective shifting techniques that merge science and spirituality to change the brain in order to be happier with more peace and fulfillment. 

These strategies have genuinely transformed my life, and I'm excited to share the simple techniques that made me a happier person in order to help you be happier too.

1. The Magic of Gratitude

Gratitude – a simple yet profound practice that has the power to transform our lives.

It's something so easy to tap into, but sometimes, amidst the hustle and bustle of life, we forget its magic. 

We often get caught up in chasing bigger dreams and constantly wanting more.

But what if, in the midst of this pursuit, we paused and looked around to see what we already have? 

It's essential to take that moment to appreciate the blessings, even if they may seem small at first glance. 

Focusing on the good, no matter how seemingly insignificant, has the power to shift our perspective and realign us with the beauty of the present moment.

The practice of gratitude allows us to rise above the noise and connect with the abundance that surrounds us.

It's not about denying our challenges but acknowledging that even amidst the chaos, there are precious moments of joy, love, and growth to cherish. 

There’s gratitude for showing up for ourselves, for being accepting, compassionate and generous.

Even when it feels like all sh*t is hitting the fan, gratitude is the stable pole you can grab onto to pull you out of the storm.

There is always something you can be grateful for if you’re willing to look for it 🌺

2. Carve Out Time for The Things That Light You Up 🌟

Life can get hectic, and we often find ourselves caught up in a whirlwind of responsibilities and obligations.

In the midst of this chaos, it's essential to carve out moments for activities that genuinely bring us joy and light up our souls.

It could be something as simple as indulging in your favorite hobby, exploring a new creative outlet, or spending quality time with loved ones.

For me, one of the greatest gifts I've given myself is the freedom to embrace joyful pursuits without guilt or pressure.

I love losing myself in the pages of a captivating book, dancing to my favorite tunes as if no one's watching, or writing nonstop in my journal to get all the thoughts out of my head.

These little moments of bliss act as reminders that life isn't just about achieving goals and checking off to-do lists; it's also about savoring the beauty and magic of the present moment.

So, I encourage you to pause, reflect, and identify the activities that get your whole body excited.

Life is meant to be lived.

And we get to control how we spend our hours in our days.

Release the pressure to be constantly productive and allow yourself the gift of leisurely relaxing.

When we make room for joy in our lives, we not only recharge our spirits but also cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude and fulfillment.

Here’s a perspective that completely changed my life.

Everyone is operating from their own conditioning.

When you can recognize that people with different beliefs than you are simply coming from their own experience, childhood, and environment, you can extend more empathy, compassion and understanding. 

It's easy to jump to judgments or feel disconnected from certain people.

However, when we choose to approach others with a curious mind of “I wonder why it is you think like that” instead of shouting and pointing a finger, we can have more productive conversations instead of accusations. 

Everyone is on their unique journey, navigating their joys and struggles just like you are. 

This understanding has allowed me to practice forgiveness and kindness, both towards others and myself.

Instead of harboring resentment or holding grudges, I choose to embrace curiosity about people's stories, experiences, and struggles.

In doing so, I've found that I can relate to others on a deeper level, creating meaningful connections that enrich my life.

So, the next time you find yourself in a situation where empathy seems challenging, take a moment to pause and remind yourself that everyone is simply operating from what they know.

Embrace the beauty of our shared humanity, and let compassion lead the way.

With each act of empathy, you'll not only brighten someone else's day but also add a touch of light to your own soul.

4. DATE Your Brain Technique 🧠🗓️

The ultimate perspective shifting technique to set the foundation to be the happiest version of yourself. 

Imagine having the ability to observe your thoughts from an external perspective—like watching yourself sit across from you at your favorite date spot.

That's precisely what the "DATE Your Brain" technique is all about.

By becoming aware of our thoughts and thought patterns, we gain a deeper understanding of our daily self-talk.

Here’s how to use the DATE Your Brain Technique: 

💡 DATE stands for:

Duplicate Yourself: Take a step back and imagine observing yourself sitting across from you at your favorite date spot. Now you get to witness yourself from the outside.

Assess Your Thoughts: Non-judgmentally assess the thoughts that arise. Are they racing? Are they calm?

Tune In: What are the thoughts actually trying to tell you? Are you stressed or anxious about something?

Experience: What is it like to sit across from yourself? Is it fun? Is it overwhelming?

🧠 This technique helps you become aware of what's really going on in your mind, so you can understand which thoughts are serving you and which thoughts you can change through the power of brain hacking.

5. Embrace Self-Compassion and Mindful Self-Talk 🌱💬

We can be so conditioned to always want to be better and criticize ourselves for not being good enough.

In this day and age, it's easy to compare our journeys to others, creating unnecessary stress and self-doubt. 

It's crucial to slow down and replace self-criticism with self-compassion and mindful self-talk.

How do you do this? First things first, you can’t change anything you’re not aware of. 

So it’s important to slow down and understand what’s going on in the mind.

You can use the DATE Your Brain technique that I discussed in point 4 to see what negative thoughts come up for you. 

Then, after you know what thoughts are recurring, you can start to fabricate a new thought that feels better for you.

It’s helpful if it really is something you believe to begin with so the brain can latch on to it. 

The way we speak to ourselves significantly impacts our emotional well-being.

So, practicing the art of gentle self-talk to remind yourself that it's okay to make mistakes and that you are worthy of love and kindness will change the way you show up in your life. 

Your thoughts have energy, and changing this energy to something lighter and more peaceful to attract in new opportunities. 

Embracing self-compassion is like a warm embrace for the soul, providing you with the strength and resilience to navigate life's challenges with grace and understanding.

Next time you catch yourself in the trap of negative self-talk, take a breath, and pause.

Replace those unkind words with words of love and encouragement.

Treat yourself as you would a dear friend—with love, respect, and understanding.

As you cultivate self-compassion, you'll find that your inner light shines even brighter, guiding you toward a path of growth and self-discovery.

Remember, each step you take towards embracing joy, empathy, self-compassion, and mindfulness brings you closer to the life you desire.

The journey to happiness is a mix of trial and error, self-discovery, embracing new perspectives, and always being kind to yourself along the way to pick yourself up when things fall flat. 

While I still cherish yoga and meditation, it was the perspective-shifting techniques and brain hacking strategies that truly unlocked my happiness. 

Today, I'm grateful for the joy I've found, and I'm thrilled to share these simple yet powerful strategies with all of you.
